My Prediction
Tottenham Hotspur by 2Oh boy, we're in for a treat here. Southampton squares off against Tottenham Hotspur, and I'm going to have to suppress my contagious excitement - don't expect me to stifle a yawn here or there.
On one side, we have Aaron Ramsdale manning the goal for Southampton with a respectable average rating of 6.83 and seven saves under his belt. Remember Will Smallbone? Yeah, with one goal and an accurate pass rate of 84%. Seems like Southampton believes in quality over quantity, otherwise how can one explain Paul Onuachu with a whopping 2 goals? Their standout performer is Ryan Manning with an average 7.20 rating.
Guglielmo Vicario is the man between the sticks for the Spurs with a slightly sure-handed rating of 7.33 and 12 saves in the bag. Tottenham's Troika consists of Ben Davies who currently holds a 7.50 rating with 94.6% accurate passes, Pape Matar Sarr - the wonder boy with one goal, and our beloved Heung-min Son with his own target hit.
Both teams' record books suggest an intriguing contest. Their last match was quite a steamroller where Tottenham schooled Southampton to a staggering 5-0. But then, their encounter a year before ended with a harmonious 3-3. This is starting to sound like a cheesy rom-com, isn't it?
Season records reverberate with 2-4-24 for Southampton, and a comparatively healthier 10-4-16 for the mighty Spurs. While the recent proclivity for Southampton has been akin to my last few blind dates - abysmal at its best, the Spurs have shown more fluctuation than an overactive seismometer.
With all this in mind and, well, because I've to make a prediction as per the job description, crunching these cryptic numerals seems to suggest a win for Tottenham Hotspur.
