Scottie Scheffler by 1 stroke
As I'm scanning the leaderboard, I'm experiencing severe whiplash from the roller coaster of rankings. It appears that unpredictability is the dress code for the Charles Schwab Challenge this year.
Starting with Ben Griffin, the man sitting pretty at the top with a not-too-shabby -12, he's recently done a decent job climbing from the 52nd tour ranking to the 8th spot in the PGA Championship. If he keeps swinging like that, he might just pull it off.
Next up, we have Matti Schmid, currently trailing behind Griffin with a precarious -11. Despite being cut in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, he seems to be finding his footing here. Then again, his 125th tour ranking does leave me a tad skeptical.
Now, the fan-favorite, Scottie Scheffler -- currently ranked 1st in the tour, thank you very much -- is strolling in with a -8 total score after 4 rounds. He won the PGA Championship, don't you know? Bit of a star, this one.
And let's not forget about last year, shall we? History's superstars, Davis Riley and Scottie Scheffler had an impressive run. But the past does not guarantee the present, as Riley's +2 total score after 4 rounds is putting a bit of a damper on his previously shining legacy.
In the final round of play, Gary Woodland - currently tied for 11th place on our leaderboard - churned out an impressive -4, making him one to watch. But, if history repeats itself, you should keep an eye out for Scheffler, our reigning champion from last year's event.
So, considering the performances, the history, and the near-cataclysmic rankings, my educated guess here...
Albert’s Prediction: Scottie Scheffler by 1 stroke
