South Carolina Gamecocks by 5Alright, so in this battle of top seeds, we've got the Texas Longhorns facing off against the South Carolina Gamecocks, a veritable clash of the titans if there ever was one.
Let's not beat around the bush here: both teams posses star power in spades. For the Longhorns, their offensive output has been bolstered by Madison Booker registering close to 19 points a game over this season. Not to be overlooked is Taylor Jones, a mainstay in the paint who's averaged over 12 points and 6 rebounds this season.
Meanwhile, the Gamecocks' offensive playbook has mainly revolved around Chloe Kitts and MiLaysia Fulwiley, arguably one of the best dynamic duos in the college game. Both have been averaging in double digits in terms of points over the last month and on top of that, Kitts has been a force on the boards with almost 8 rebounds a game.
Now, looking at past terrain, one couldn't help but take note of the apparent Gamecocks' advantage based on recent encounters. That last meeting was a particularly rough ride for the Longhorns, losing 64 to 45.
However, it’s not all gloom and doom for the Longhorns. Both teams have displayed an exceptional regular season record showing they're sharks in a sea of minnows, but if we're poking around in the numbers game, Texas has got a slightly superior standard with a 31-3 record to South Carolina's 30-3.
The recent tournament form shows the Longhorns devouring their opponents, securing convincing wins leading up to this marquee matchup. Meanwhile, the Gamecocks had a bit of a scare against Maryland and Duke, but managed to pull out victories like a magician pulling rabbits out of a hat.
Before you make any hasty decisions, remember, this is March Madness - where the world stands on its head and underdogs can sometimes match up, but those wrinkles don’t iron themselves out, and history has a knack for repeating itself. Given the evidences, my money, if I was a betting man, is on the South Carolina Gamecocks by a neat 5 points.
