Oh, what a contest we've got lined up here! The Purdue Boilermakers, clawing their way into the 16th spot in the AP poll, a place where they don't hang a banner but it sure doesn't hurt your bragging rights down at the local watering hole, are heading down to wrestle with the Auburn Tigers, who are nestled comfortably at that #2 position.
We've got the Boilermakers led by Trey Kaufman-Renn, who've been working up a sweat putting up 18.3 points per game in the last month and bulking up the stat sheet with his rebounds too. Braden Smith is another name to remember, dishing out assists like your grandma passes the mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving dinner - 8.0 last month, to be exact.
But they've got their work cut out for them. Auburn has their own firepower in the form of Johni Broome, who not only nets on average 17.0 points a game but devours rebounds like I do donuts on cheat day, with 11.7 last month. Chad Baker-Mazara is no slouch either, contributing 14.7 points to the Tigers' cause.
Looking at the recent games, Purdue might be bringing a 8-3 regular-season record, but Auburn dogs them close behind at 10-1. But sport fans, record is just a number, much like age or the number of hot dogs you can eat at halftime. And when you take into account that Purdue has stumbled in the recent games while the Tigers have been ferocious with a series of dominating wins, numbers start to seem like just.. well, numbers.
So, prepare for a rumble in the jungle, folks! It ain't gonna be a tea party over there. After crunching the numbers, reading the signs, and tossing a coin, my prediction below,
