In the red corner, we have the Long Beach State 49ers slipping down the line of late with less than stellar results. Meanwhile, in the blue corner, the gentlemen from Gonzaga Bulldogs hold strong at the number 3 spot in the AP poll rankings. Just face it, the odds are so far in Gonzaga’s favor, you’d probably have to squint to see the 49ers from there.
Now let's talk personnel. For the 49ers, we have Devin Askew averaging 16.3 points per game. TJ Wainwright and Cam Denson follow his lead by contributing 14.7 and 10 points per game, respectively. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs wouldn’t be sitting pretty at number 3 without Ryan Nembhard with 12.8 points and an impressive 10 assists per game. Graham Ike and Khalif Battle add another 14.5 and 14.3 points per game respectively.
The 49ers recently have seen better days, though. With continuous losses against the Portland Pilots, San Francisco Dons, and South Dakota State Jackrabbits, it's no surprise they're wearing the underdog's uniform today. The Bulldogs, on the other hand, showcase a better record, with only one scratch in their last five games.
So, where does that lead us? I'd say if you're betting on this one, get your magnifying glasses out 'cause the win is coming from pretty far down the line, and it isn't the 49ers.
Albert’s Prediction: Gonzaga Bulldogs by 34
