First off, we're playing ball at the T-Mobile Park over in Seattle, where the pitchers are really given some room to breathe, especially compared to some of those bandbox parks out there. It must feel like they're in a cathedral.
Pitching for the Orioles today is Corbin Burnes, who's been slinging fireballs all season, with that impressive 2.389 ERA and an above average 8.4 strikeouts per nine ratio. On the other side we've got Bryce Miller for the Mariners, slightly higher ERA at 3.921, but he's been no slouch at racking up the strikeouts too.
Looking at Baltimore's line-up, it looks like they're sending out some reliable bashers. They've got Austin Hays, Ryan O'Hearn, Anthony Santander, and Gunnar Henderson, whose gloves are practically smoking with the heat they've been swinging this season. On the other hand, Seattle's got Ryan Bliss, Dominic Canzone, Mitch Garver, Luke Raley and Cal Raleigh, who... well, let's just say they're performing admirably in their day jobs.
Baltimore also comes into this with an enviable record of 54-31, while Seattle has been a bit more of a seesaw at 47-40. But let's not forget those past matchups. Those Orioles have been somewhat of a mountain for the Mariners recently, taking most of the last few matches.
When we look at it all, I've got to say, it doesn't take a genius, or psychic, to see where this might be going.
