My Prediction
Strasbourg by 2As we dissect the upcoming Ligue 1 matchup between Nantes and Strasbourg, we find ourselves with plenty to discuss. Starting with Anthony Lopes, Nantes' stalwart between the sticks, he’s been soaking up the shots like a sponge at a summer pool party, saving 14 balls to date.
On the other hand, Strasbourg goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović has had an appreciable season, with a 7.50 rating and 9 saves to his name. No superstar, but he's hardly what you'd call a human sieve, either.
Both teams have fielded quite the ensemble cast, if the stats are anything to go by. Strasbourg's been served well by the likes of Dilane Bakwa, Mamadou Sarr, and Emanuel Emegha while Nantes had some decent showings from Louis Leroux, Moses Simon, and Francis Coquelin. Remember folks, these are the sort of names that make the ground shake when their foot meets the ball. Well, metaphorically at least.
Looking back at history, Strasbourg seems to have had Nantes' number more times than not. Last we checked, it was three wins to Strasbourg and one lone victory for Nantes over their recent meetings. But it's worth noting that in sports, past performance doesn't necessarily predict future success - otherwise we'd all be rich, wouldn't we?
Now let's take a gander at the two team's regular season records. Strasbourg is sitting a bit comfier with 10 wins, 7 draws, and 7 losses against Nantes' slightly more sheepish 5 wins, 9 draws, and 10 losses. However, one look at the recent results tells me Strasbourg is on a hot streak, while Nantes appears to be alternating between feast and famine. Quite the emotional roller coaster for their fans, I imagine.
Taking all of these facts, figures, and abstractions into account, I foresee Nantes succumbing to Strasbourg's wave of momentum. It's simply hard to ignore the Strasbourg train, and how well they've been running of late. So, I'm outputting a confident prediction today.
