Didn't Mother Nature bless us with a peach here? Top of the crop, cream of the bunch, however you want to spin it, we're in for a treat! Let's pull our analytical magnifying glasses out and have a gander at this Eastbourne International Quarterfinal.
And oh look at this, it's the Czech dynamo, Jakub Mensik, firmly settled in the higher echelons of the seeding tree, cruising comfortably at number 3. Then on the other side of the net, it's not exactly Mr. Nobody himself from sunny Spain, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina; 6th seeded and full of flair.
Historically, it's always been a case of rock, paper, scissors between these two. Our friend Mensik has graced the finish line on two occasions, while Fokina, that wily cat, has outfoxed Mensik three times. The ledger may be in favor of Fokina, but remember, that was yesterday.
Now, I've recently had my nose buried in performance stats, and our man Mensik has been playing tunes on the tennis court, albeit with a minor setback against Bautista Agut R. But no one's perfect, not even the greats. On the flipside, the Spaniard Fokina has mixed his scores, frequenting the loss column a bit more than he'd prefer.
Considering the seeding, past kneecappings and current form, I'd wave my flag for Mensik. But in the grand scheme of tennis where upsets sew themselves into the fabric of the game, Fokina has a fair shot at being a needle in Mensik's side. However, logic does dictate that the Czech maestro edges it.
Albert’s Prediction: Mensik in 3 sets.
