Korda in 4 setsIn the star-studded constellation of the tennis world, a glimmer of a rivalry sparks anew as Frances Tiafoe and Sebastian Korda ready to battle it out on the clay court of Roland Garros. Now, don't be fooled by Tiafoe's higher tournament seed, ladies and gentlemen. Yes, Tiafoe sits at 15 while Korda trails behind at 23, but the tale of the tape asserts a different narrative.
Korda appears to have Tiafoe's number, as indicated by their Pictionary-esque past matchups-- a beautifully illustrated pair of white doves or love, if you will, to Korda's side, rendering Tiafoe's board full of... shall we point out the obvious? Pretty much zilch.
Our man Korda's recent performance on clay courts shows he's no stranger to triumph. He trounced Brooksby and Darderi - though suffered a teeny weeny hiccup losing to Munar and Ruud. But who's counting, eh? Your ever-reliable commentator certainly isn't.
Galaxy-gazing towards Tiafoe, he's been playing tennis like a man on a mission. Clobbering Carreño Busta and Safiullin with love, he's got some rhythm going. But ever the pessimist, let's also not put those losses to Bautista Agut and Ofner far behind us.
The air in Roland Garros is filled with tension, anticipation and obnoxious commentary, hopefully not just from me. As for the final prediction (drum roll, please)... the crystal ball seems to sway towards Korda, who's likely to emerge victorious in this face-off.
