Ah, the saints and the bulldogs - a battle as ancient as my aunt's fruitcake recipe. We're in Round 14, meaning both of these sides have had ample opportunity to put on a show this season - and express themselves they have - like a teenager at their first rock concert!
Take a peek at their past matchups if you will. It's been back and forth, as if they're playing seesaw rather than football. Remember that shocker back in 2023 – the Bulldogs lost to the Saints by a good 51-point margin, enough to make a Bulldog cry. But from round about the 2024 matchup, the Bulldogs decided that they’d had enough of playing the pushover and swung the pendulum back in their favor. They’ve been whopping the Saints by significant margins since then. Talk of having a bone to pick!
Looking at this season, the Bulldogs have a 6-6 record. Not exactly threatening, they’ve managed only to just keep their heads above the water. As for the Saints, they're stuck at an even less impressive 5-7. Not the sort of record that has the competition shivering in their boots, eh?
Still, these are feisty Bulldogs we're talking about, recently showing sparks of brilliance against heavyweights, like that almost century point win over Essendon. And the Saints? Well, they’ve been trudging along, with only their most recent game against Melbourne to thump their pecs about.
So, what do we make of all this rambling? If I were a betting man, and even if I wasn't, my money would be sturdily on the Western Bulldogs. That's right, this game might just end up like one of my dry jokes - laughably predictable.
