And here we are with quite a matchup between Sweden and Germany, a football duel straight out of Norse mythology, ladies and gentlemen!
Between the sticks on the German side, we have Ann-Katrin Berger. Her tournament has been a measured one, with a trump of 5 saves and a not-too-shabby 7.20 rating. Not to be overshadowed, the Swedish side's Jennifer Falk boasts a 7.40 rating and equal numbers of saves. These women don't like the sight of the ball in the net, that's for sure.
On the German field, it's nothing short of a blitzkrieg with the likes of Klara Bühl and Jule Brand. Bühl, with her ridiculously high accurate pass percentage of 76.8, has been turning opponents into pretzels. Brand isn’t far behind, scoring a goal, showing off her eagle-eye with 3 shots on target, and a slightly better accurate pass %. And for a dollop of extra mustard, we have Sjoeke Nüsken, punching in a goal, 2 shots on goal, and a very distinguished 84.4 accurate pass %. But it's not Oktoberfest every day for the Germans, as even with these brilliant players, the ball seems to have a bit of stage fright when it's close to the opponent's goal, if you catch my drift.
On the Swedish end, we have Filippa Angeldahl and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd who have been nothing short of cogs in the machine. Angeldahl's 1 goal and 3 shots on target paired with a 76.0 accurate pass % makes her as reliable as a Volvo. Kaneryd, although yet to score, isn't dozing at the wheel with a safe 76.5 accurate pass %. And who could possibly ignore Kosovare Asllani? With 1 goal, 1 shot on goal and a 75% accurate pass rate, she's giving the opposition a good run for their money.
Drilling down into the recent form of both teams, Germany seems to be on a roller coaster with a recent win against Denmark and a loss against Italy, among others. Sweden, on the other hand, displays an exemplary recent form, transforming opponents into Meatballs with a winning streak dating back at least 3 matches.
So, after a lot of hums and haws and a couple of imaginary coin tosses, taking into account recent form, goaltending records, and the individual performance of the players, I’m giving Germany the edge. It's likely to be a narrow escape, but they just seem to have a bit of the edge.
Albert’s Prediction: Germany by 1
