Atlanta Dream by 4Alright, let's delve into what promises to be a nail-biter between the Atlanta Dream and the Washington Mystics.
In the past match-ups between this pair, the Atlanta Dream has consistently proven to be a bit of a nightmare for the Mystics, especially when we plunge into the labyrinth of last season's encounters, and I'm just saying - there's a pattern here not even the worst detective could miss.
Our friends in Atlanta have a veritable power lineup. Brittney Griner, for instance, with quite an impressive average of 17.9 points per game last season. Combo that with Tina Charles's proclivity for collecting rebounds like they're going out of fashion, and Rhyne Howard's scoring prowess - well, let's just say, I wouldn't want to be on the opposite end of that lineup.
The Washington Mystics aren't exactly left holding their basketball shorts though. Shakira Austin and Brittney Sykes made their presence known last season, but, and I say this with the neutrality of a Switzerland on steroids, compared to Atlanta's smorgasbord of on-floor talent, the Washington force looks a little less than mystical.
Looking at the last season records, both teams were pretty evenly matched. However, Atlanta displaying slightly better form with a 15-25 record, against Washington’s 14-26, snagged the 8th spot in the WNBA, inching out the Mystics by a cat’s whisker.
Recent form does bear consideration. The Mystics managed to edge out a victory against Indiana Fever, while Atlanta took a two-game tumble against New York Liberty. In basketball, momentum matters and it would appear the Dream's wings got a bit clipped there, while the Mystics did a little bit of hocus-pocus on the Fever.
Oh, I'd love to sit on the fence and call it a close one, but there got to be a winner. So, look into my crystal ball and see the future now...
