Let me remove my slightly rickety crystal ball here for the upcoming clash of the titans... or should we say lady giants? The Dallas Wings are up against the Las Vegas Aces and boy do we have a game on our hands!
Arike Ogunbowale has been the Wings’ silver lining, dishing out a rock solid 22.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game in the last month. For consistency, she seems to be well rivaled by her own self, considering her season stats are nearly identical. Natasha Howard and Satou Sabally join the party adding their hearty contributions to the Wings as well, clocking same average numbers in both categories for the last month or the whole season. But ladies and gentlemen, please, take my word with a grain of salt... or a whole shaker if you're on a sodium diet.
On the other hand, we have the Las Vegas Aces who have A'ja Wilson. Wilson's last month stats are towering, netting an average of 25.2 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. I guess the only thing she's bad at is being average, huh? The Aces have more cards up their sleeve with Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young adding their formidable skills into the mix. If I were a betting man... which I most certainly am not... wink wink, nudge nudge... I'd say these names are not to be ignored.
Looking back at the past brawls, none of the teams have managed to establish their reign. But alas! The Aces have a better batting average on the seasonal records. The Wings have been flapping with a rather unsavory 9-30 record while the Aces hold a more dignified 26-13. If only winning games was as easy as winning my ex-wife's approval, the Wings might stand a chance.
And to determine the current standing in the realm of giants, it's Vegas all the way baby! The Aces are lazing comfortably at #4; while the Wings couldn’t quite soar reaching #11.
So put a pot of coffee on folks, it seems we’ve got an interesting encounter on the horizon. Based on my mathematical acumen, and intuition comparable to that of a blindfolded dart player:
