My Prediction
Bayonne by 6Ah, here we are again, folks. The illustrious dance of Bayonne versus Pau, a classic top 14 matchup for the ages in round 22 no less. Recent history sings a melodious tune in favor of both the teams, yet a little out of tune for Pau, unfortunately. The last five meetings have seen a pair of wins apiece, with one draw thrown in the mix for good measure to keep us all on our toes.
Now, Bayonne stands sturdily at #4 in the standings, looking as confident as an aging peacock fluttering its feathers in the springtime. Yes, they've suffered some close matches, but they managed to triumph over Lyon and ASM Clermont Auvergne, lending credence to their ability to gouge the eyes out of fierce competition.
Pau, on the other hand? Well, they are languishing at #10 and are coming off a bruising defeat at the hands of Bordeaux Bègles. They did manage to trounce Racing Metro 92, but remember when they were decimated by Toulouse? It was a sight sadder than a Goldfish in a too-small tank.
Hold your horses, though. Even though Pau's regular season record boasts more losses, they have managed to outscore Bayonne during their past two meetings. However, this rollercoaster of unpredictability seems to heavily favor Bayonne earning their pay today.
There's no such thing as a sure bet in rugby (or in life, for that matter), but if I had to wager my last nickel, I'd place it on Bayonne coming out on top in what promises to be a gripping match. So, folks... dare I say it?
