Toulon by 8By the will of the sporting gods, we find ourselves glancing at yet another clash of the titans, the Toulon versus Stade Français match. A veritable collision of rugby prowess if there ever was one, but let's break it down like a five-year-old's LEGO tower.
Stade Français doesn't look much like a titan of late. Sporting a record more akin to a lackluster rom-com at 6-10, they've been less "clash" and more "crash." But, we must give them some kudos, in recent days they managed to swat away Pau 39 to 37, even if they were as alarming as a nail in a flat tyre against Bordeaux Bègles, losing 19-46.
On the other side of the pitch, Toulon is sitting pretty in the #3 spot. A record of 11-5 suggests they spend less time picking themselves off the turf and more time crushing hopes and dreams. Their recent performance against Montpellier, 38 to 30 victory, even had my mother-in-law applauding, and she's tougher than a two-dollar steak.
Digging into the archives of their past jousts, Toulon enjoys a favorable breeze with three victories out of the last five encounters. However as we all know, just like your clingy ex, history tends to repeat.
Chewing on all of this information, Olympic weightlifters wouldn't struggle to tip the scales in Toulon's favor. Stellar recent performances, a better position in the standings, and a propensity for putting Stade Français back in the box. I think it's fair to say, "Chalk one up for Toulon."
