La Rochelle by 3As we gear up for another riveting round in Top 14 with La Rochelle taking on ASM Clermont Auvergne, it's a spicy plate of past rivalry we have here. The past matchups have quite the smorgasbord of results, with both teams giving each other a run for their money. It's almost like picking between French and Italian cuisine, both delightful in their own way. But hey, past is past!
ASM Clermont Auvergne, sitting pretty at #3, have been quite the team to watch this season. Their last five games look like the stock market when Apple announced a new iPhone, mostly ups and they have a favorable 7-4 regular season record. Their recent thrashing of Castres Olympique might have restored their morale after suffering a crushing defeat from Stade Français in October.
On the other side of the coin, we have La Rochelle, who have been whipping up a storm at #6. Their performance this season, much like my mother's tiramisu, has left quite a lot to desire. They're coming off a lull against Vannes, and their regular season record of 6-5 doesn't do much to paint over the patchy performance.
However, call it intuition or my sixth sandwich-sense, but I have a small inkling that La Rochelle just might get their giddy up in this round considering the bookies are opening up their wallets wider for them. You know what they say, follow the money!
