Pau by 2Ahh, the land of cheese and wine is ready to give us another classic Rugby showdown, isn't it? Tell me, who's not excited for Pau and Racing Metro 92's face off for round 9?
Nothing quenches my thirst for competition more than looking at a history of mixed results for these titans. Each enjoying their fair share of victories and defeats against each other. A grudge match, if you will.
Let's state the obvious, shall we? Pau's recent performances have been as spectacular as a slice of day-old baguette. They are hanging onto the #10 spot in the Top 14 24/25 Standings, something they probably aren't sending postcards home about.
Racing Metro 92, on the other hand, isn't exactly shining brightly either. They're rocking #8, just a little north of Pau. If I had a Euro for each time these teams have disappointed me, I'd probably be able to buy another cheap red tie.
Now let's dig into each team's regular season record, and much like my aunt Melinda's cooking, it's not all that appetizing. Racing Metro is balancing on a 4-4 record, while Pau is teetering at 3-5. Oh boy, did someone say suspense? And I thought French drama was all about love triangles.
I must say, Racing 92 has shown some spunk recently, beating both Perpignan and Vannes, and leading a strong defence against Bayonne. Impressive? Maybe. Noteworthy? Absolutely.
In Pau's corner, though, you've got the sweet sweet promise of the underdog. Yes, the recent losses against Bordeaux Bègles and Toulouse were as hard to swallow as a low-quality Bordeaux wine, but their victory against Castres Olympique was a corner well turned.
Given the payout, the records, the past matchups, and my unsurpassed wit, I have to prophesy that Pau is going to pull a rabbit out of a hat on this one. I expect it to be tighter than my pants after a French feast but let's give it to Pau by a small margin here.
