Alas, here we are, gazing upon the Olympic basketball wonder that is the USA versus France showdown. The finale we utterly didn't need a crystal ball to predict, yet here I am to make sense of it for a friendly wager perhaps.
Gallivanting toward the victory lane, we have our American gals who've beaten the odds and...well, everyone else. Their sharp-shooting folks, A'ja Wilson, has been a savage on the court - chalk it down to her last season's glory of about 20 points per game. Add to that the fearless combat of Breanna Stewart and her playoff average of 14.5 points each skirmish, and we have some cogs whirring away nicely in the star-spangled machine!
On the other side of the pond though, our French femmes have a couple of sparklers too. Gabby Williams, the leading lady of the pack, boasts an impressive 16.5 points per battle in the playoffs. Swing by the court of Valeriane Vukosavljevic and you're looking at someone who's managed a neat 13-point deal each game. Not too shabby, eh?
But alas, my delightful calculators and cautious bettors, numbers can be cruel, and as they have it, USA's brollies have stayed sturdily afloat amidst the storms of the playoffs, wading through undefeated. The French belles, though a force to reckon, have shown a hint of fallibility with their 2-1 tournament record. Recent results, too, show the USA are clobbering their opponents by an average of nearly 20 points, quite more than what our French cousins have managed.
When push comes to shove, there's #1 strutting from Group C (USA) and #1 skipping from Group B (France). But seeing as some ones are better than others, and judging by who's got the bigger guns and better poker faces going into this duel, well, the scales just tip one way.
Albert’s Prediction: USA by 12
