Not to ruin the suspense, but Seattle Reign FC and Utah Royals FC are about as evenly matched as a pole vaulter and a Sumo wrestler. If you’re a betting person, wink wink, be prepared for a bit of an uphill climb if you're putting money on our lads from Utah. Utah’s goalkeeper, Mandy McGlynn, has earned her keep this season with an impressive rating and a total of 14 saves. However, her opposite number, Claudia Dickey of Seattle, isn't playing catch-up either, with a sound rating and 8 saves.
Now, Seattle has its own little fire brigade, starting with Lynn Biyendolo and her sterling 7.10 rating. Her teammates Jordyn Bugg and Emeri Adames aren’t lagging far behind, with 7.07 and 7.03 ratings respectively.
As for Utah... well, let's just say their top players have probably seen better days. Brecken Mozingo, however, deserves a special shout with his 7.07 rating and 2 goals. But as they say, one swallow doesn't make a summer.
Looking at their last faceoffs, Utah might have crushed Seattle 3-0 last October. But in soccer, like in most aspects of life, the past tends to stay in the past. And the regular season records don’t breathe any life into Utah's case, with Seattle standing at 5-3-4 and Utah...well, they’re struggling at 1-2-9.
Moving on to recent results, Seattle's been keeping a decent balance with a couple of wins, losses, and a draw. On the flip side, for our Utah folks, it’s the same old hard-luck story with a series of losses and a draw.
Let’s be honest, folks, if optimism could win matches, Utah would have a fighting chance. But on a soccer field, it’s skills that count. And Seattle just has more of them.
