Looking at the forthcoming bout between Angel City FC and Seattle Reign FC, a few things stand out like a giant zebra in a field of thoroughbreds. First of all, Seattle's holding a bit of an edge on the goalkeeping side, with the dynamic duo of Cassie Miller and Claudia Dickey. They've got more saves between the two of them than a lifeguard during pool season. Angel City is no slouch, though, with Angelina Anderson pulling off commendable saves, albeit barely in double digits.
The star performers are where things get more embroiled than a spaghetti dinner. On Seattle's side, the trident attack of Lynn Williams, Jordyn Huitema, and Ji So-yun packs a punch with a combined total of 10 goals. Seattle also boasts Jessica Fishlock's pass accuracy but she's as likely to find the back of the net as I am to turn down a free lunch. Over on Angel City's side, I can't ignore Alyssa Thompson and Claire Emslie who've knocked in 11 goals like they were playing a game of pinball.
Their historical head-to-head clashes have been pretty neck and neck, like two cocker spaniels fighting over a tennis ball. But Angel City holds a slight edge, coming out on top three times against Seattle's two. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
However, let's not forget the song of the last season, which played out like a blues track for both teams - more losses than a compulsive gambler. Angel City had the slimmest of edges with one extra win to their name, but it's almost as commendable as a participation trophy.
Recent games have seen Angel City show resilience like a rubber band - pulling in drawn games like moths to a flame, whereas Seattle's been feeling the sting of a couple losses. They did manage to shine against North Carolina Courage recently, maybe that's a silver lining to their rather gloomy cloud.
So, after some contemplation, a few cups of coffee, and a spontaneous moment of enlightenment, I've reached a prediction. Lo and behold -
