Buffalo Sabres by 3Alright, everybody, let's talk some ice—I mean, let's take a gander at this upcoming tussle between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres.
Let’s kick off with our goalies. The Penguins are packing a one-two punch with Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic between the pipes. Jarry having a save percentage of 92.8 on this season. Not too shabby, folks. On the flip side, we've got the Sabres' very own Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, the human wall, with an 89.6% save rate this season. And lest we forget James Reimer, one of the Sabres' premier stoppers, he's sporting an 89.1% save percentage for the season.
Next up, let's run through the marquee players. Penguins' Sidney Crosby, Rickard Rakell, and Bryan Rust have been movers and shakers, albeit with more favorable stats last season. These ol' birds are still pulling their weight, but they're probably going to feel a little rust—no relation—against Buffalo's solid lineup. In the blue corner, we’ve got players like Jason Zucker, creating chaos on the ice with 15 goals this season and Rasmus Dahlin, despite not scoring last month, he’s been dynamic in creating opportunities with 12 assists. Always an eye candy for good hockey.
Now, it's a bit of back and forth between these two teams in their prior meetings; Penguins won twice, Sabres won twice. Can't we all just get along? Oh yeah, we need a winner, don't we? The Penguins' recent results look as bleak as January weather while the Sabres just edged it out against the Hurricanes and bagged a clean sheet against Ottawa. Now again, the Penguins have had the upper hand before—once, in 2024, to be exact—but that's history, and we’re dealing in present tenses here.
Taking everything into consideration, the Penguin waddle isn't really instilling much terror in the hearts of the Sabres, but those gleaming Sabre teeth could do some damage.
