Ah, the NCAA Football playoffs. Now we have a real barn-burner here. The Tennessee Volunteers (#9) will be knocking helmets with the Ohio State Buckeyes (#8). Strap in folks, this is going to be a wild ride.
The Volunteers closed out the regular season with a respectable 7-1 record. They've got Nico Iamaleava slinging the pigskin, who in the past month has been putting up some solid numbers: a 163.6 passing efficiency, 11 touchdowns, and just 1 interception. That's not too shabby folks.
Their offensive roster is quite impressive, with two standout characters - Dylan Sampson and Dont'e Thornton. Sampson has been smashing the field rushing with 5.8 yards per attempt, while Thornton has been proving himself a valuable asset in the air, racking up 21.7 receiving yards per reception in the last month.
As for defense, Arion Carter and Rickey Gibson have been leading the pack in tackles, although their sack numbers are less than impressive.
Now, let's take a look at the Buckeyes, also sporting a 7-1 record. Their QB, Will Howard, has been decent under center, despite a couple more interceptions than his counterpart from Tennessee. However, his passing efficiency isn't too far off at 155.8.
Their offense has got some firepower too. TreVeyon Henderson is quite the threat on the ground with a 6.5 average rushing yards per attempt. In the air, the Buckeyes have Jeremiah Smith, our high-flyer for the month with 14.1 receiving yards per reception.
The Buckeye defense is no joke either, with Cody Simon and Sonny Styles recording healthy sack numbers in the past month.
With all things considered, the Buckeyes seem to have the edge here folks. I sense a touch more volatility in Tennessee's performance, and the Buckeyes are favorites for a reason.
