Troy Trojans Seize Convincing Victory over Struggling Southern MississippiLet's not beat around the bush here, Troy Trojans left no room for dispute in their rout of Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. The Trojans boasted a towering 457 yards against Southern Mississippi's 293 yards, led by the rushing powerhouse, Damien Taylor with his 169 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. I'm guessing the Golden Eagles wished they could turn back time to Q1 where they held a fleeting lead. The Trojans, however, like a seasoned poker player, patiently held their cards, and boy did they play them right. A series of touchdowns, courtesy of Taylor, Caldwell, Swartz, Goodly, and Lovett, crushed any hopes of a comeback for the Golden Eagles.
In what some might have termed a mismatch from the get-go, the Trojans were expected to come out on top and they did not disappoint. The pre-game figures indicated the Trojans were favorites and they lived up to those expectations, even exceeding the 17.5-point spread. This was like watching a rerun of their 2023 matchup where the Trojans also came up trumps.
Southern Mississippi's performance was, how do I put this kindly, lackluster. Especially when taking recent games into account. Recent losses reflect a team struggling for form while the Trojans, despite some hiccups, have generally been a force to reckon with.
A personal shoutout to the Golden Eagles' Tate Rodemaker who mustered 234 passing yards and 2 passing touchdowns, although those 2 interceptions must be sticking in his craw. Yet one man does not a team make, as the Golden Eagles found seated firmly at the bitter end of a 52-20 scoreline.

My Prediction
Troy Trojans by 18Well, the matchup between the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles and the Troy Trojans is basically the equivalent of a car wreck on the side of the highway: it's truly tragic, but you cannot look away. Their regular season records can attest to that: Talk about fan heartache!
The Golden Eagles have been struggling with their QB situation for the past month. Ethan Crawford and Tate Rodemaker are juggling the ball at QB, which is not a strategy I would recommend unless you're trying to give your fans some sort of cardiac event.
On the Trojans' side, however, QB Matthew Caldwell has been delivering statistics that make him seem like he's playing a different game! This kid has thrown 10 TDs and nearly a thousand yards in the past month. Not half bad, Caldwell - you just might make a career out of this football thing.
Let's talk offensive muscles now. For the Eagles, Kenyon Clay and Rodrigues Clark have been grinding it out on the field, while Jackson and Washington deserve some props too. For the Trojans, Damien Taylor and Gerald Green are heavy hitters paired with Devonte Ross, who I swear must have glue on his gloves with the way he's hauling in passes.
Brodarius Lewis stands out on the defensive end for Eagles. Watch out, Troy! For the Trojans, Brendan Jackson and Devin Lafayette have been as solid as a brick wall. And, let's not forget about Justin Powe with a successful interception in this last month.
When we put it all together, barring a flood, fire, or infestation of locusts on the field, my money would be on Troy. Caldwell is going to put on a throwing clinic for the struggling Golden Eagles, and I predict he'll be writing 'TD' on his breakfast toast the next morning.
