Laughery's Triple Treat Pushes Illini past Wildcats, 38-26Despite giving up more total yards, first downs, and having less possession time, the Illini still dismantled the Wildcats 38 to 26. Northwestern may have outgained Illinois, but failed to translate it into enough points, largely due to turnovers, fumbling once and tossing three interceptions. The statistics aficionados among us might still be nursing a migraine from trying to understand the scoring.
Watching the individual performances, no need to squint to see who shone brightest. Aidan Laughery of Illinois was like a stubborn mustard stain, proving impossible to remove, rushing for 172 yards and scoring three touchdowns. Luke Altmyer, fetched the star quarterback mention, not for his passing, but for a pair of sprinting feats, adding two more touchdowns to the board.
Northwestern's signal-caller, Jack Lausch, racked up 293 yards, his arm turning out more serviceable than a Swiss Army Knife. However, his two interceptions molded a footnote he'll prefer forgotten. Receivers must be feeling sore, A.J. Henning catching for 119 yards and Thomas Gordon putting one in the end zone, but the Wildcats fell short.

Illinois Fighting Illini by 8Ah, the sweet aroma of football season! Let's delve into this savory matchup between the #23 ranked Illinois Fighting Illini and the Northwestern Wildcats. Remember, in their last face-off, it was a squeaker with Wildcats clawing their way to a 45 to 43 win. Not much of a defender's game that one, eh?
The Illini sports a weathered but respectable 6-3 record this season compared to the Wildcats less impressive 4-5 state of affairs. The recent form would have been more subtle to compare, had it not been dominated by the Illini's stronger showings against sides like Michigan State and Minnesota. A combatant can't just mute the sound of the Wildcats' heartbreaking renditions lately, getting a thrashing from the Wolverines and the Buckeyes.
Not to be overlooked are the guys calling the shots on the gridiron – quarterbacks Luke Altmyer of the Illini and the Wildcats' duo Jack Lausch and Ryan Hilinski.
