New Orleans Pelicans by 6
Now, I am not one to brew unnecessary suspense, so let's cut to the chase. We've got a matchup that's liable to make you spill your popcorn: the New Orleans Pelicans squaring against the Washington Wizards. You might think both these teams have forgotten what a net looks like, considering their more than lackluster positions in the conference standings. But there's always hope, right?
The Pelicans' top gun, CJ McCollum, has been on fire, averaging 23.9 points per game over the past month - quite dapper, if you ask me. And that Dejounte Murray fellow isn't twiddling his thumbs either, pulling 16.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game over the same period. But, heavens demmit, Brandon Ingram's out of the party with an injury! That has to sting.
Then there's the Wizards. Losing Jordan Poole to injury is a blow harder than my Aunt Martha's holiday fruitcake. However, Malcolm Brogdon's had a decent month, tallying 15.2 points per game, albeit a bit less spectacular than McCollum's numbers on the Pelicans' side.
Throwing it back to previous matchups, the Pelicans have had the upper hand more often than I've had hot dinners, outscoring the Wizards in 4 out of 5 encounters. Maybe that'll put some wind in their sails.
Recent results? The Wizards had a brief flirt with victory against Chicago, but then it was back to their losing ways. The Pelicans, on the other hand, recently reminded the Wizards what a spanking felt like with a 12-point win.
While I sympathize with the Wizards, given their existence in the same plane as the reality of the Eastern Conference, the absence of Jordan Poole makes it even tougher. So without further ado....
