Taking in the radiant Los Angeles sunshine, we’ve got the Portland Trail Blazers going toe-to-toe with our very own Los Angeles Lakers. While the Lakers may hold an advantage in both position and previous win-loss records, putting them rather positively in the spread, it's not exactly a stroll down the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Starting with the Trail Blazers, their standout performance is largely defined by Deandre Ayton, who's been consistent with around 15 points per game, and Anfernee Simons, with close to 18 points per. However, their standout Jerami Grant got his boots snagged in something fierce this week. On the flip side, Deni Avdija’s performance has been a bit of an emotional roller coaster ride at the Happiest Place on Earth, but hey, who doesn't love Disney?
As for the Lakers, we're talking some serious name-dropping, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis delivering expected standout stats. Here’s the kicker though, Davis seems to be playing coy, listed as "doubtful" for today's game. Meanwhile, Austin Reaves has been impressive, averaging more than 22 points per game last month, making him a major player to watch. And the rest of the crew, well, they're like a surprise selection of chocolates - never know what you're going to get.
Looking at history, the Lakers have pretty much held the upper hand in the last 5 matchups, but some of those games were tighter than a hipster's skinny jeans. Recent results show the Trail Blazers have had a few hiccups, while Lakers have been cruising along on some sort of magic carpet ride.
So tell your crystal ball or whatever it is you use, that despite the injuries, it seems highly likely that the Lakers will take this one based on past performance and season stats. But in the NBA, surprise is the name of the game, right?
