Minnesota Timberwolves by 7
Ah, it appears we're in for a show tonight, folks. The Minnesota Timberwolves are locking horns with the San Antonio Spurs and boy, it's going to be a tug of war. And if you blinked too much last season, you might have missed the rise of the Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards, his performance last season was one for the books with 25.3 points per game. Watch out for Julius Randle tonight too, buttering the court with 20.3 points on average this season.
For the Spurs, lovers of subtlety might not pick it up but Victor Wembanyama doesn’t walk the court, he rules it. Been putting up 25.2 points per game, ruling both the offensive and defensive boards with 10.1 rebounds, and occasionally dishing out 3.9 assists. Jeremy Sochan and Devin Vassell have been chipping in a commendable effort every game, touching about 15 points each. It's like they are wrist deep into some points stew and the rest of the team ain't eating.
Looking at their past matchups, we've seen them return victorious, but there were defeats too. Remember the outrage the Timberwolves caused, beating the Spurs 114-105 both times when they hosted them? How could we forget, it was an embarrassment of riches. But then the Spurs retaliated with two wins, stamping their authority with a 113-103 victory last Nov. Time sure flies, feels like yesterday.
The Spurs had a bit of a roller coaster in their recent games, falling off in New York and Philadelphia but managing to grab victories against Portland and Atlanta. The T-Wolves had an eerie consistency, defeating Dallas and Houston but failed to secure victories over Atlanta, Golden State and the Knicks. I guess it's true, you can't win 'em all.
Position wise, the Western Conference leaderboard is a tough ladder to climb. We find Minnesota sitting comfortably at the 8th position, just a notch above San Antonio. Someone pour me a glass of water, because this match up is getting too spicy.
