Dallas Mavericks by 12In a world that appreciates patterns and symmetry, the match-up between the New Orleans Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks... is anything but symmetrical. Buckle up, because this one's a rollercoaster.
If we're talking top players, the Pelicans are in a bit of a pickle; injuries have served as an irritatingly persistent mosquito at their picnic. Take Zion Williamson, the man's a machine but alas, he's out for the count today. And of course, CJ McCollum, although no official injury report, his status is "doubtful" — it’s like waiting for your churros at the state fair, and they’re now plain out of cinnamon!
As for the Mavericks, Luka Dončić has been nothing short of dazzling this season. Yet even a supernova occasionally flickers, and he's coming into this game with a doubtful tag. Kyrie Irving, however, is a consistent performer and should be in fine form like a seasoned line-dancer.
Looking back at their past encounters is like perusing a dusty album of photos where every picture tells a story... usually in the Mavs' favor. Those shots, ladies and gentlemen, tend to point towards Dallas, the city where dreams come true - if your dream is seeing the Pelicans lose.
In terms of regular season records, it's not exactly been a glory train for either side but we never let pesky things like 'records' tarnish our optimism, do we? As for recent results, the Pelicans are on a loss streak equivalent to a bachelor party's trip in Vegas. Meanwhile, the Mavericks' results seem to oscillate more than your grandma's rocking chair.
And as the saying goes, "if you ain’t first, you’re last," and well, neither team is ‘first’ in the Western Conference Standings with the Pelicans hanging at 14th and the Mavericks slightly above at 11th. These horses aren't exactly leading the race.
So, in my highly-scientific, never-proven-wrong crystal ball prediction, it's Dallas set to clomp over the finish line ahead in this match. As much as we'd all love an underdog revival story, or a dramatic twist... sometimes a straight-up drama-less win is all you're going to get.
