In a world filled with jaw-dropping averages and heart-stopping home run counts, apparently, our latest diversion is the Chicago Cubs squaring up with the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards. Now I don't mean to burst any bubbles, but let's get real.
First off, on deck for the Cubs, we've got Justin Steele gracing the mound, offering the boys in green a glimmer of hope. Although he's got a more-than-decent ERA of 3.39 and his whip barely cleaves above 1.
As for the Orioles, Albert Suarez secures the mound tossing for a respectable 2.60 ERA and an okay whip of 1.25. He's brought home the bacon in 18 appearances this season, but who's counting?
Top-notch for the Cubs, we're seeing action from Mike Busch, Ian Happ, and a little dose of Seiya Suzuki. Conversely, the Orioles are banking on the more than solid batting performances from the likes of Heston Kjerstad, Austin Hays, Anthony Santander, and Gunnar Henderson. Light a match, because these boys are on fire.
Now about the history between the Cubs and the Orioles - it's somewhat 'you win some, you lose some.' It's a bit of a seesaw really, sprinkled with wins and losses that bear no discernible consistency. Toss a coin or pick straws, might be your best bet here!
Looking at the regular season - Cubs and their wishy-washy journey at 44-49 might not look impressive on the surface. But the Orioles look mighty fine, standing tall at 57-35. Although, their recent run-ins might make you reassess your faith in the high and mighty Orioles.
So here's my two cents. Suarez will stifle the Cubs, despite Steele's competent hurling. And in the dance between the bats and the ball, the Orioles are likely to swing for the fences, riding on the back of their high-scaled batters.
So then, strap in because it’s going to be a wild ride.
