Alrighty then, let's jump into this spicy little baseball matchup we've got cooking here. Now we're out at Queens, in Citi Field that has a nasty tendency to be unusually cruel to the batters. Might just be those turbulent city breezes knocking the balls off course...So, cherry-picking our starting pitchers, we've got Patrick Corbin for the Nationals. Bless him, this season, he's been dancing around to the tune of an unsettling 5.61 ERA. For the Mets, we're dealing with Luis Severino, who's had a fairly decent run with a 4.13 ERA.
Now, onto our players. You've got the Nationals with powerhouses like CJ Abrams who's been knocking 'em dead with a .347 batting average, and then there's Luis Garcia, a star of his own right. But don't put all your eggs in one basket just yet. The Mets have some remarkable players in their dugout too. Case in point, Francisco Alvarez, hitting .342 this season, not shabby at all, and Brandon Nimmo doing them proud with 27 RBIs.
Only a crystal ball could predict the outcomes of baseball, but if we look at history which we must, the Mets have had an upper hand in the recent matchups against the Nationals. Both teams are sort of neck and neck this season though, so don't be so quick to toss the Nationals aside.
Looking at recent results, Mets had a rather tumultuous time at Pittsburgh before winning against Washington, while the Nationals were pummeled, boy oh boy, by the St. Louis Cardinals making a slight comeback before tumbling again with the Mets. Makes you pull your hair out a little, doesn't it?
All in all, this matchup reminds me of an old hillbilly arm wrestling match, unpredictable, a little bit messy and a whole lot of fun. So, drumroll, please…
