Sweden by 3Oh, come on, folks ... wait, scratch that. Time to discuss the upcoming hockey fiesta - Denmark against Sweden. Now if you think goaltending was an art, our goalies have kept a clean canvas this season. For Denmark, we've got Frederik Dichow and Sebastian Dahm, and for Sweden, Jacob Markstrom and Samuel Ersson are standing up. I mean, no saves at all - now that's a match we're waiting for!
The Danes have some strong personalities, with Patrick Russell and Nikolaj Ehlers giving a pretty decent season show. Nick Olesen, despite a not so flattering tournament record, did fairly well this season, and we can't quite discount Markus Lauridsen either. However, Sweden is hardly lightweight. That Rasmus Andersson is proving to be quite the deft hand. Lucas Raymond, Leo Carlsson and his two goal addition in the playoffs are worth a watch. Special mention to Elias Lindholm - seven goals this season folks, the man's on a roll!
The tournament record is a different track, with Denmark at 3-1-0-3, while the Swedes are at a hearty 6-0-0-1. Now, Denmark had an unexpected win against Canada, but then again, the Swiss did trample them 7 to 0. Sweden, on the other hand, is eating the competition for breakfast. Except for the USA, they are dominating so far.
The pre-tournament rankings tell their own tale - #11 for Denmark and #7 for Sweden. The standing positions seem to favor Sweden more, sitting at #2 Group A, while the Danes are perched on #4 Group B.
Now, wouldn't it be quite a story if Denmark pulled the rug from under Sweden's feet... but the stats, recent results, and player performance suggest that the Swedes might take home the third place title. I mean, who doesn't love a good underdog story - but folks, let's keep our daydreaming for sleep, shall we?
