My Prediction
Lens by 1Alright folks, pardon me, seems I've lapsed into my old habits, let's dive into this Ligue 1 matchup, Lens vs Olympique de Marseille. For Olympique, we’ve seen Gerónimo Rulli command the goal with a 7.28 rating and a solid 16 saves. On the opposite side, Brice Samba hasn't been messing about either for Lens, with a 7.07 rating and 9 saves to his credit.
Now the cream of this confectionery, the top players for each team. Olympique’s Mason Greenwood has been on point recently with a remarkable 7.85 rating, scoring 3 goals with 5 shots on goal, and an 85.9 accurate pass %. Neal Maupay seems to be picking up the slack as well with a creditable 7.35 rating, banging in 1 goal so far. The lower performers... we'll just kindly ignore them for now.
Switching to Lens, Przemysław Frankowski has shown the sheer cheek of it by nabbing a 7.35 rating and scoring one goal himself. Facundo Medina though, whilst not scoring himself, has been effectively controlling the pace of the game with a 7.10 rating. Hamzat Ojediran, a name as cool as the football he plays, has managed to maintain a 7.05 rating.
History is doomed to repeat itself, as backward as that sounds - these past matchups between Lens and Olympique are of course vital. Seems it has been mostly a tight contest with the last three games resulting in a 2-1 scoreline favoring each side once and Lens pocketing an additional win.
Both these sides have had mixed results this season. Marseille's regular season record boasts of 6 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses, while Lens has had 4 wins, 5 draws, and 2 losses. Looks like Olympique has managed to drop more points recently, including a worrisome 3-1 loss to Auxerre. Lens, on the other hand, is coming in warm (or cold, take your pick) from a victory against Nantes.
So, here's how I see it - perhaps with a lens tinted with irony or sweet macarons, whichever image suit you. Given the recent form, the skilled player-base and a goalkeeper who blocks anything coming his way better than my spam filter, I’m going with Lens. Don't ask me why, my gut can't talk.
