Shuffling through our pile of stats here, we see Lille keeper Lucas Chevalier with a rating of 7.16 and he's made 15 saves this season, just the same number managed by Nice’s Marcin Bułka, who’s rating stands at 7.06. The netminding maestros are almost side by side here folks, but we’ll have to see how the mercury really rises on the field.
Let's talk about the main acts on the field. For Nice, we've got Jérémie Boga, who's boasting a cool 7.52 rating and netting 2 goals to his name. Dante and Morgan Sanson aren't too far behind either, both with commendable ratings and a couple goals amongst them.
Anybody with a passing interest in Lille will be watching Bafodé Diakité and Angel Gomes closely. Diakité's scored himself 2 goals, while maintaining a rakish 7.50 rating. Angel pulls his weight in the front line too, clocking in an admirable 7.48 rating.
Jonathan David, too, hasn't been on a scenic route, with a strong 7.28 rating and 3 goals under his vest.
Now, let's have a walk down memory lane. Nice and Lille locked horns back in August 2023, when the whistle called it a day at Nice 1 and Lille 1. Just a couple of months prior, Nice triumphed with a sweet 1-0 scoreline. However, and I say this with bated breath, past glory could just be yesterday’s turkey.
Taking a gaze at their recent curriculums, Nice's been in the mixer, losing to Paris Saint-Germain, but rebounding with a win against Le Havre and outscoring Strasbourg solidly. Meanwhile, Lille's had their own ups and downs, losing a thriller to Olympique Lyonnais but bouncing back against Nantes and Metz.
For the record enthusiasts, Nice stands at 15-9-9, while Lille is sitting pretty at 16-10-7. It’s a tough call really, like deciding between Brad Pitt and George Clooney!
So after touring stats and records, and applying my humble specialization in chicanery, here’s my call:
