In the red corner, we have Aldosivi, guarded by their goalkeeper, Jorge Carranza. You've got to love Carranza's enthusiasm, despite his 6.70 rating—making a grand total of 6 saves. Their powerhouse includes Ignacio Guerrico and Justo Giani, both with no goals yet but hey, there's always today, right?
In the blue corner, the boys are at it again, Newell's Old Boys, led by their shot-stopper, Williams Barlasina. If keeping the aggressive soccer balls away is an art, then with his 7.10 rating and 10 saves so far, Williams is a Monet. Éver Banega has been the Michelangelo of this team with an 8.15 rating, two goals, and a successful pass percentage that would make a Maths teacher blush at 83.5%.
Just to make things even more intriguely (yes, it's not a word, but really should be), remember when these two faced off last time and Newell's Old Boys proved to be the better Boys, winning 1 to 0? Good times, good times. Newell's regular season story is a moderate fable, 5 wins, 4 draws, and 7 losses. Whereas, Aldosivi seems to be revelling in picnic games with 4 wins, 3 draws, and 9 losses.
Recently, if I recall correctly—and, believe me, I do—Newell's Old Boys seem to mostly lose. That draw against Club Atletico Union a few months ago might be a sweet memory for them. And Aldosivi, oh Aldosivi, they seem to be acutely allergic to winning. Their last win against San Martin de San Juan does seem like ages ago.
I guess what’s next in this heart-wrenchingly thrilling match is as unpredictable as the next fashion trend. So, after prolonged contemplation and multiple helpings of nachos, my gut and the evidence seem to contradict each other. I would like to go with my gut, but the evidence has a more convincing argument… or maybe it's just the nachos.
Albert’s Prediction: Aldosivi by 1
