Villarreal by 1Looking at this LaLiga matchup we've got coming up between Getafe and Villarreal, I can't help but feel we're in for a bit of a treat. Assuming, of course, your definition of a 'treat' is being immersed in an elaborate tap-dance of football tactics and potential mathematical profit.
Villarreal's man between the sticks, Diego Conde, owns a decent 6.65 rating, managing to blockade 5 shots from turning into a cause for rival celebration. On the other side, we have David Soria of Getafe displaying slightly more prowess with a 6.83 rating and 4 saves, which is quite admirable but far from extraordinary, much like a tuna sandwich.
Taking a gander at Villarreal's key players, Juan Foyth & Alejandro Baena are both showing off an impressive 8.00 rating, each registering attempts at the goal. I mean, you gotta love the ambition, don't you? Not far behind is Santi Comesaña, owning a 7.30 rating and more importantly, a 91.7% accurate pass percentage, a testament to his distribution skills.
For Getafe, Ramón Terrats and Mauro Arambarri are headlining the performance charts, each Guy Fawkesing the net twice. Arambarri's showing a healthy 75.0% accurate pass percentage, a stat sure to keep his teammates happy.
Looking at past matches between these two teams, it's like looking at a long list of stalemates, with an occasional Villarreal victory thrown in for some semblance of variety. Villarreal in fact, on paper, looks a smidgen better, with 12 campaign victories compared to Getafe's 9.
Glancing over recent results, Villarreal seem to have been playing a frustrating game of musical chairs, alternating between the sweet taste of victory and the bitter gulp of defeat, a bit like a bi-polar pinata. Getafe on the other hand, seem to have found a groove with a little more win, especially impressing against Atletico Madrid.
All in all, we can expect a tight contest. But when you look at all the underlying cues, Villarreal might just squeak by.
