Villarreal by 1Looking at the upcoming LaLiga matchup between Villarreal and Mallorca, one could say that it's a bit like deciding between lukewarm coffee and a slightly oversteeped tea. Neither options excite, but we have a game to play, don't we?
Starting off with the goalkeepers, Dominik Greif is doing the business for Mallorca. His 5 saves and 8.10 rating say it all. He's keeping their castle guarded well, and we admire that. Villarreal, on the other hand, has Luiz Júnior in goal. A 6.70 rating and 4 saves, well, frankly, I've seen better, but then, one man's dry martini is another man's dirty dishwater.
Moving over to the players, Mallorca's stars include Pablo Maffeo and Antonio Raíllo, both impressing with their inflated player ratings and let's not forget Cyle Larin who despite a dismal accurate pass percentage, somehow managed to find the back of the net.
On the other side of the field, Villarreal has Thierno Barry. Strikes me as a bit of a dark horse, he does. Three goals, five shots on goal. Not shabby at all. And Pape Gueye and Sergi Cardona are keeping the midfield tight with their commendable player ratings and accurate passing.
Looking at their past skirmishes, Villarreal clearly enjoys a good tussle with Mallorca, having come out on top more often. An interesting rivalry, not unlike cats and cucumbers, if you ask me.
Speaking of regular season records, Mallorca's edged ahead with a 9-3-7 record to Villarreal's lukewarm 8-6-5. If that tells us anything, it's that this match is as unpredictable as popcorn on a skillet.
Taking into account the recent results, Mallorca seems to be kissing the boots of success more often while Villarreal is grappling with the bitter aftertaste of disappointment and defeat in recent times.
