Now, pour yourself a glass of something cold, because we're about to dive into Game 7 between Avangard Omsk and Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. Ladies and Gents, it does not get better or worse than this, depending on your cardiac state!
In the goalies department, Omsk’s Mikhail Berdin and Nikita Serebryakov are having what I believe experts call a "rough patch" - registering exactly zero saves this playoff. They say you can't go up if you don't go down, but their elevator seems to be stuck in the basement. Yaroslavl, standing strong on the shoulders of their concrete slab Daniil Isayev, who's boasting a dizzying save percentage of 0.0. Bravo, Daniil, Bravo!
In between breaks from knitting more mittens, Omsk's players have pulled together some commendable playoff performances so far, notably Kronstantin Okulov with 2 goals, 5 assists and Semyon Christyakov with his 3 goals, 3 assists line. Then there’s Mr. Everywhere, Reid Boucher, who's dumped 5 goals into the net along with an assist thus far.
As for Yaroslavl, Maxim Beryozkin has been sewing up his jerseys with 4 playoff goals and 3 assists. It seems the net is his favorite geometry problem. Not to be outdone, Artur Kayumov chipped in with 3 goals and 4 assists.
In a blast from the past, a quick revisit of these clubs’ recent dancing dates sends pretty mixed signals. The last one was a rumba, with Omsk trouncing Lokomotiv 3-0.
Overall, despite some uneven recent results, I’d say the scales are tipping slightly to the side of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. Their impressive regular season performance and slightly superior playoff history make them seem that bit more groovy. But then again, we know what they say about sports and predictions, they make for a great cocktail of fun and despair. So, pour that drink, sit on that couch, and let's do this.
