CSKA Moscow by 3So in today's thrilling Kontinental Hockey League matchup, we have the mighty CSKA Moscow squaring off against the formidable Sibir Novosibirsk. Let me tell ya, you'd have to set your alarm clock to wake you up when a puck gets past any of these goalkeepers, what with how often they stubbornly refuse to...oh, wait. Nevermind. None of them made any saves last month. Or this season. Zero, nada, zilch. If this isn't a glaring loophole, then I am out of jokes about these statistics.
On the player's front, however, we see a whole different story unfolding. For CSKA Moscow, Vitali, with 5 goals and 3 assists in the last month, and a solid 19 goals and 13 assists this season, seems like a force to be reckoned with. Add Maxim Sorkin's performance with 4 goals, 3 assists in the past month, and the duo seems to be melting ice to say the least. Of course, can't gloss over Denis Gurianov, with 5 goals and 2 assists in the past month.
Now with Sibir, we see Trevor Murphy banking 3 goals and 9 assists in the past month, pushing up his season performance to 8 goals and a whopping 31 assists! Taylor Beck's no slouch, either having moved the biscuit into the basket for 3 goals and 7 assists this past month. One to look out for is Vladimir Butuzov; he's the wild card with his last month stat of 4 goals and 1 assist.
And the ghosts of games past seem to be smiling on CSKA Moscow, they've consistently out-scored Sibir in their previous matchups, including an impressive 8-2 victory last September.
Judging by season records, CSKA Moscow also seems to be doing better, winning 26 out of 40 matches compared to Sibir's 19 out of 43. Although recent results for both teams don't exactly sound the trumpets of victory, with CSKA Moscow and Sibir Novosibirsk losing more games than they won.
In my fairly humble opinion, this matchup seems to favor the men from Moscow. So strap on your seat belts folks, and try not to spill your popcorn.
