Oh boy, this is a messy one. The Yokohama F. Marinos face off against FC Tokyo and honestly, it’s a little hard to predict who will end up with fewer scars because let’s face it, neither team is going home mother-approved.
In terms of goalkeepers, FC Tokyo has Go Hatano and Taishi Brandon Nozawa, each with ratings of 6.37 and 6.20 respectively, which frankly tells me they spend more time fetching the ball from their nets than a Golden Retriever at a park. On Yokohama's side, Hiroki Ilkura sports a 7.50 rating with 21 saves - he must have been a boy scout because he seems to be pretty good at saving, well, at least compared to his counterparts.
Yasuki Kimoto, Marcelo Ryan and Kei Koizumi have shown some sort of attempt to hustle for FC Tokyo, though none of them seem to know where the goal is. Over in Yokohama, Yan Matheus, Katsuya Nagato, and Daiya Tono have all tasted the sweet glory of goal ignition, which puts their team on a slightly shinier stage.
Going by the history, Yokohama has usually been the unfortunate one after these faceoffs. But let's face it, history is often wrong, just take a glance at any teenager's recollection of historic events.
Regular Season Records show Tokyo with 5 wins, 5 draws and 10 losses, whereas Yokohama lags behind with 3 wins, 5 draws, and a whopping 12 losses. What can I say? At least they're consistent.
Recent results paint a gloomy picture for both teams. FC Tokyo might as well replace their shoes with roller-skates with the way they're slipping up. Yokohama, not to be outdone, seems to be taking inspiration from an old Miley Cyrus song - they just can't stop... losing.
Despite all this doom and gloom, and much like choosing the lesser of two evils, I'm inclined to lean towards the Yokohama F. Marinos for a win here. Their higher-rated goalie and players with actual scoring experience give them a thin edge, like a razor blade on a Christmas turkey. The match might not be a Picasso, but hey.. at least someone’s painting.
