Olympiacos by 13We've got an interesting matchup here between Virtus Bologna and Olympiacos. A quick glance at the standings shows you Bologna have been struggling, sitting at a rather unfortunate 17th while Olympiacos ride high in the 6th spot.
Truth be told, it has not been a great go-around for Bologna this season. Don't get me wrong, players like Clyburn and Shengelia are putting up respectable numbers, with Clyburn averaging 19.6 points, 6.4 rebounds last month and Shengelia providing consistent support with 14.8 points and 6 rebounds. However, you need a lot more than just individual brilliance in this game.
Olympiacos, on the other hand, are putting on a display this season. Their top guns are firing and how. Sasha Vezenkov has been lighting it up with figures of 17 points and 7 rebounds last month, supported ably by Evan Fournier, chipping in with 15.4 points. Sounds scary, doesn't it?
Reflecting on their past encounters, there's no denying that Olympiacos has had the upper hand, coming out on top in the most recent showdown, albeit by a slim margin. Couple that with Bologna's recent form, which to put it politely, has been downright abysmal with a 3-12 win-loss record this season, and Olympiacos' chances are looking rather rosy.
The latest results? Well, neither team would put them on their highlight reel. Bologna has only managed one win in their last five, while Olympiacos hasn't exactly been on a tear with a win in their last outing but losses preceding that.
Now, I won't say the writing is on the wall, but anyone with a half-decent pair of specs can see Olympiacos has the edge here. However, this is sports, and we all know stranger things have happened. That being said, even my dry wit and sarcastic charm can't conjure up a narrative where Bologna upsets the apple cart. Olympiacos should take this comfortably.
