What a matchup we have today! The aroma of the pitch and the collective anticipation from fans is palpable as FC Twente and NEC Nijmegen get ready for what looks to be a battle of the titans.
On one side of the goal post, FC Twente has their formidable German shot-stopper Lars Unnerstall, with a season rating of 6.77 and 9 saves to his name. The guy might look like a mall cop, but he's got hands like a raccoon - misses nothing! Into the lineup for the men in Red, they showcase powerhouses such as Sem Steijn who's been on fire with 3 goals and 4 shots on goal this season. Not to forget, Daan Rots and Ricky van Wolfswinkel, equally lethal with their consistent performances.
On the other end though, NEC Nijmegen have their own guardian at the net, Robin Roefs, with a slightly higher rating of 6.93 and 10 saves. This man is as hard to breach as my ex-wife's emotions. Vito van Crooij and Sami Ouaissa especially, have been Nijmegen's lifelines in an otherwise bleak season with their goal-scoring capabilities and precision passing.
Let's not forget Twente's dominance in previous battles against Nijmegen. They are leading the season with a far superior win-loss ratio. But, remember folks, it's football. Even David beat Goliath. So, will history repeat or will NEC prove that they are not an easy three points?
Based on recent performances and disciplined gameplay from FC Twente, and as much as I love an underdog story, my money's on FC Twente retaining their dominance.
