Shanghai Port by 3Alright, let's dive into this upcoming Chinese Super League matchup between Shanghai Port and Shenzhen City. Buckle up, this could get messy!
Between the sticks, we've got Jiabao Ji and Peng Peng for Shenzhen City. Last season, Ji's gloves saved the day with 61 saves and a commendable 7.39 rating. Peng Peng, not to be underestimated, had 45 saves with a 6.78 rating. They’ll have their work cut out for them.
For Shanghai Port, leading the rearguard is the seasoned Junling Yan with a 7.07 rating and 76 saves from the last season. Whether his gloves will light up the match again, time will tell.
Turning to the field, Shenzhen City has Edu Garcia and Rade Dugalić as their top performers. Certainly their mothers would be proud with Garcia's 9 goals from 19 shots on goal and Dugalić's 4 from 8. Not so shabby indeed. But to spice it up, Zhipeng Jiang is definitely one to watch with a 7.19 rating along with 2 goals in his bag from the last season.
Shanghai Port, however, brings in their heavy hitters: Wu Lei, Matías Vargas, and Leonardo. They've got enough fire power to start a war. Wu Lei with a whopping 34 goals last season, Vargas with 12 and Leonardo with 21. Talk about an attacking force.
Looking back at past bouts, Shanghai Port soundly beat Shenzhen City 2-0 and 6-0 in 2024. The record books show too that Shanghai Port dominated last season with a 25-3-2 scoreline, while Shenzhen City fell behind with 7-8-15. If we briefly visit the recent past, it adds more murk than clarity with mixed results for both teams.
That brings us to the crux of the matter. Based on the numbers and previous faceoffs, Shanghai looks to be in the driver's seat with Shenzhen in their rear-view mirror. Life has a funny sense of humor, but I'd suppose the odds are in favor of Shanghai Port.
