In a world where football is less a sport and more something to bet hard-earned money on, we have a clash of two titans... or that's what we'd be saying if any other teams were playing. But hey, it's Benfica and AS Monaco, so we'll roll with that.
Monaco, oh Monaco. Known for their lavish casinos and, well, these guys. Unfortunately, injury seems to love them more than the French Riviera sun. Key players Aleksandr Golovin, Folarin Balogun, and Vanderson are all on the bench nursing their wounds. Despite Majecki holding down the fort with a 7.07 goalkeeper rating, ladies and gentlemen, we might just see a few loopholes in their defense.
On the other end, we have our Portuguese friends, Benfica, known for their...fication...of football? Anyway, they're also walking wounded out there. Key players Ángel Di María, and Florentino Luís also find themselves in the med bay rather than the pitch. However, their goalkeeper, Anatoliy Trubin, seems to be doing a splendid job with a 7.14 rating.
Let's tiptoe to their history for a second though, where Benfica walked away the last two times with victories. On the bright side, they're both sporting a 4-1-3 tournament record, so maybe they can bond over their shared mediocrity.
However, based on those important figures and numbers that I'm explicitly instructed not to mention (and you thought I wouldn't be subtle), I'd say Benfica slightly edges out Monaco.
