Mainz by 1You gotta love the smell of Bundesliga in the morning. Or afternoon. Or night. Time zones, am I right? Anyways, we've got ourselves a barnburner on tap today, as Mainz squares off against Bayer Leverkusen.
The last time these two titans faced off, Bayer Leverkusen took home the bragging rights with a narrow 1-0 victory. In fact, Leverkusen has been making a habit out of it, winning three of their last four encounters. However, Mainz’s Regular Season Record is not too far off with 14 wins to Leverkusen’s 19.
Onto the players, shall we? For Bayer Leverkusen, keep your eyes glued on Florian Wirtz and Patrik Schick who are rising like a pheonix—each have netted a goal with a commendable number of shots on goal, and let me not forget about Granit Xhaka, an expert in pass accuracy. However, saying Mainz is unarmed would be an enormous gaffe. Jonathan Burke with his 2 goals and Nadiem Amiri, getting the big numbers in accurate pass percentage, might be the thorn in Bayer Leverkusen’s side.
Now, let's touch on the men between the sticks. Bayer Leverkusen's net has been quite well-guarded with Matěj Kovář, and Lukáš Hrádecký, who have fairly decent stats. On the other end, the Mainz duo of Lasse Riess and Robin Zentner, show some noteworthy results, Riess, in particular, making an impression with a solid rating and a few clutch saves.
Looking at the recent results, both teams have had their moment in the sun and weathered a few storms. Mainz has pulled off an impressive 4-1 victory against Bochum, but also suffered a 3-0 defeat against Bayern Munich. Bayer Leverkusen hasn't been quite as dramatic, with most of their recent matches ending in draws or low scoring affairs.
Crunching these numbers and taking that Mainz sausage-favored spread into delicious consideration, my prediction has just about baked in the oven.
