Rumblings are afoot as the Washington Mystics journey westwards to go toe to toe with the Los Angeles Sparks. It's gonna be like watching two one-legged chickens at a barn dance. Both teams are having, what I'd humbly call, a splendidly miserable season with regular season records just this side of some kid's lemonade stand. The Mystics, languishing at 4-15, while the Sparks are barely outdoing them with a lofty 4-14. They've had a better past though, the Sparks trumping the Mystics in three out of their four last meetings. So if you're into history, there's some fun trivia for you.
Moving on to the heroes of the hour, let's put the spotlight on the players that have been showing some flashes of brilliance. The Mystics' Brittney Sykes has been making the scoreboard dance lately with an average of 18 points per game in the last month, an uptick from her season average of 11.3. Ariel Atkins isn't far behind, netting a neat 14.9 points per game last month. It would be remiss if I didn't mention Stefanie Dolson and Aaliyah Edwards too, contributing decently to the points tally.
The Sparks' side has Dearica Hamby carrying the torch forward, averaging a whopping 17.1 points per game last month. Not too shabby, particularly remembering she's been pulling an impressive double-double over this season with 18.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Aari McDonald and Rickea Jackson have been decent wingmen, or should I say wing-women, averaging double-digit points last month.
Crunching all these hard facts and also taking the temperature of the room, I'm gonna stick my neck out and give you my prediction:
