If you're looking to place a safe bet and not just throw your money into the wind, Marta Kostyuk is your gal. She marched her way into this tournament as the 14th seed and has recent results that make her look as poised and focused as a cat eyeing a particularly slow mouse. We've seen a couple of stumbles along the way sure, most notably at the hands of a certain Miss Shnaider, but the pattern tells me Kostyuk got right back on her feet with a vengeance.
On the other hand, our unseeded Volynets has been putting up a fight, scoring a couple of wins against Gálfi and Tauson, facing off Zidanšek in a full three sets, only to lose. Not terrible, per say, but not exactly the stuff of legend either.
From the looks of it, Volynets is more of a shoot-for-the-moon-because-if-you-miss-you'll-land-among-the-stars kind of gal. But sadly for her, it's Kostyuk who's got the winning combo of form and aggression.
So if you're smart... and I assume you are because you're listening to me, you'll be tipping your hat in the direction of Marta Kostyuk. Given both their recent forms, I am predicting Kostyuk might need three sets to seal the deal.
Albert's Prediction: Kostyuk in 3 sets.
