Let's take a peek at this exciting matchup between the Fresno State Bulldogs and the UNLV Rebels. The last time these two tangoed was nearly a year ago with the Bulldogs taking home the bacon, 31-24. Interesting to note is that despite being a notch down on the AP Poll Rankings, the Bulldogs came out ahead. However, I know you didn't come here for a history lesson.
Fun fact about this season - so far the Bulldogs have brushed their teeth with victory three times and tasted defeat once. Conversely, the Rebels are flawlessly wearing their victory smiles every time they step on the field. Doesn't tell us much, as we all know it's not how you start, it's how you finish.
Now, if we turn our focus a bit to some individual performances, and how couldn't we? We've got two gunslingers; Mikey Keene for the Bulldogs and Matthew Sluka for the Rebels. Keene's got an impressive 143.6 passing efficiency in the past month with 6 touchdowns but those 4 interceptions might matter while Sluka, a bit more conservative with 136.5 passing efficiency and 6 TDs, but only 1 interception. A little less yardage, a little less risk. A half full or half-empty kind of situation, depending on your persuasion.
On the offensive side, Mac Dalena of the Bulldogs has notched up 450 total yards and 3 touchdowns in the last month. Right up there with him is Jalen Moss with 249 total yards. The Rebels aren't hurting for offensive prowess either. Ricky White has totaled 127 yards and 3 TDs, while Kylin James boasts a round 114 yards and a touchdown.
Not to be outdone by their offensive counterparts, both defenses have some real heavy hitters. Case in point, Cameron Lockridge of the Bulldogs and Jackson Woodard of the Rebels. Lockridge, coupling 12 tackles with 1 forced fumble and 3 interceptions, has been nothing short of phenomenal in the last month. Woodard is a one-man wrecking crew for the Rebels with 21 tackles, 3 sacks and a pick.
Folks, it's a close one, but considering everything, I'd say it's all coming up Rebels this time.
